Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital Foundation, Inc.

WorldCause Foundation is pleased to announce one of its most recent philanthropic initiatives, providing an unrestricted grant to Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital Foundation Inc., located in Hollywood Florida. In addition to presenting the grant, Robert A. Preston, Barbara Wilson and Nicholas Palanza of WorldCause Foundation were provided with the opportunity to tour the brand new state of the art medical facility with Kevin Janser, Sr. Vice President of Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital as well as Elisa Jones, Love Jen Cancer Fund Child Life Specialist, and Michele Scanlan – JDCH Grants Coordinator.

According to its official website, Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital was established in 1992 and combines advanced technology and the expertise of the largest, most diverse group of board-certified pediatric specialists in the region. With its summer 2011 expansion, Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital now has 204 beds and is South Florida's newest freestanding children's hospital.

Additionally, the Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital Foundation was founded in 1994, providing philanthropic support to the hospital, ensuring the ongoing availability of safe, quality, cost-effective, patient and family centered care, regardless of one's ability to pay, with the goal of improving the health of the community.

The grant will go towards The Love Jen Cancer Fund, established in 1991 by Drs. Nick and Wendy Masi, as a living legacy to their daughter Jennifer who lost her battle with cancer. The Love Jen Cancer Fund provides emergency financial assistance to the families of children undergoing treatment, for expenses not covered by insurance. This includes medical supplies, bereavement, utility bills, rent and mortgage relief, and grocery store certificates.

A diagnosis of cancer is a life- changing event for patients and their families. Treatments involve extended hospital stays, painful procedures, and unsettling physical changes. Families also face the reality of unexpected financial burdens and staggering medical bills. Through this donation, these families will receive continued support during this time of treatment, ultimately improving their quality of life.

Following the grant presentation, WorldCause Foundation took a tour of the four-story, 180,000-square-foot, environmentally friendly facility which features six pediatric operating rooms, dedicated medical/surgical units, family resource centers, ambulatory services, as well as imaging services that feature a CT scanner disguised as a pirate ship, and an entire floor dedicated to inpatient and outpatient pediatric oncology treatment.

In addition to this assistance, patients and their families receive invitations to special events and patients are engaged in daily activities that distract them from issues related to their disease and help them celebrate milestones achieved.

WorldCause Foundation would like to thank Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital Foundation for providing us with a tour, and would especially like to thank Kevin Janser Sr. VP, Elisa Jones - Love Jen Cancer Fund Child Life Specialist, and Michele Scanlan – Grants Coordinator, for their time and welcoming tour.
